U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado at the White House on Thursday. This meeting occurs as pressure mounts on Venezuela's interim leadership to release political prisoners. Machado had previously been sidelined by Washington following the seizure of Nicolas Maduro. The Trump administration has been working with interim president Delcy Rodriguez, warning her to comply with U.S. directives, particularly regarding oil reserves. Venezuela announced freeing 116 prisoners, but rights groups and families question the numbers and pace of releases.
