The Supreme Court has asked the Election Commission of India (ECI) to respond within a week to pleas filed by Trinamool Congress MPs Derek O'Brien and Dola Sen. The MPs allege procedural irregularities and arbitrariness in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal. They claim instructions are being issued via informal channels like WhatsApp, and a new 'logical discrepancy' category for voters may lead to unfair hearings. The court will hear the matter again on January 19.
