Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD), also known as Overseas Indian Day or NRI Day, is celebrated annually on January 9 to honor the contributions of the Indian diaspora to India's development and to strengthen their engagement with the government. The date commemorates Mahatma Gandhi's return to India from South Africa on January 9, 1915. While the day is observed annually, the main PBD convention has been held biennially since 2015, with theme-based conferences in intervening years. The 2025 convention's theme was 'The Diaspora's Contribution to a Viksit Bharat'.
