The Union government has drafted rules under the Social Security Code to provide insurance and pension benefits to gig and platform workers. Eligibility requires engagement with an aggregator for at least 90 days (or 120 days for multiple aggregators) in a financial year. Benefits include health, life, and accident insurance, and a pension scheme with contributions from platforms and workers. The National Social Security Board will oversee policy, and workers are being registered on the e-Shram portal. This initiative addresses growing demands from gig workers for better social protection.
