The National Medical Commission (NMC) has changed its regulations to allow both non-profit and for-profit companies to establish medical colleges under Public Private Partnership (PPP) models. Previously, only non-profit Section 8 companies were permitted. NMC Chairman Abhijat Chandrakant Sheth stated that this change aims to efficiently utilize resources for medical education, with state governments overseeing PPP implementation and ensuring subsidized or free treatment in associated hospitals. The commission also plans to enhance medical education quality through compulsory clinical research, AI integration, and simplified accreditation.
