Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar predicted that the Janata Dal (Secular) may soon merge with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Speaking after inducting JD(S) leaders into Congress, Shivakumar stated such a merger would simplify the political landscape, leading to a direct contest between Congress and BJP. He also asserted his greater political and administrative experience compared to JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy, who had recently criticized Shivakumar's handling of police meetings. Shivakumar suggested the JD(S) lacks ideology and that a merger would be beneficial for Congress.
