AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has criticized the Congress party, alleging its amendments to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) during the UPA government are responsible for the prolonged detention of Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam. Owaisi cited specific UAPA provisions, including the phrase "by any other means of whatever nature," which he claims were legislated by Congress and later used by the Supreme Court to deny bail to the activists. He recalled raising concerns about these subjective clauses in Parliament years ago, warning of potential misuse.
