The Delhi High Court has taken suo motu cognisance of inadequate facilities at the city's night shelters amid a severe cold wave. Directing the Delhi government and the Centre to ensure homeless individuals are protected from the biting cold, the court emphasized the need for sensitivity and adequate amenities. Authorities have been ordered to file a status report detailing the conditions and services provided in shelters across the city. The court expressed concern over the grim situation, particularly after a report highlighted patients' kin braving the cold outside AIIMS due to packed shelters. Further hearings are scheduled.
