A large-scale US military operation in Venezuela early Saturday reportedly resulted in at least 40 deaths, including civilians and soldiers, according to Venezuelan officials cited by The New York Times. The operation also led to the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who is now in US custody. US President Donald Trump stated that American forces were involved in extracting Maduro and that while one helicopter came under fire, all US aircraft returned safely. Trump announced the US would temporarily run Venezuela until a transition could occur.
