A gunfight occurred between the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) and Kuki underground groups on Thursday morning in Manipur's Kangpokpi district. The ZUF stated they were acting against alleged illicit poppy cultivation and unauthorized camps at Kharam Vaiphei. While officials reported no casualties, the ZUF suggested some Kuki cadres may have been injured. The incident has caused tension in nearby villages, recalling the broader ethnic violence between Meitei and Kuki communities that began in May 2023.
