
Lance Naik Megh Raj of the 1st JAK Rifles displayed extraordinary bravery during the 1971 India-Pakistan War. On the night of December 15-16, he played a crucial role in capturing a fortified enemy position. During a subsequent daylight counterattack, Megh Raj singlehandedly repelled two enemy assaults with his LMG fire. Despite sustaining fatal wounds during a third attack, he continued firing until it collapsed, ensuring the position remained secure. He was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra for his courage and devotion to duty.
