Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan has urged states to nominate more IPS officers for central deputation to fill leadership roles in central police organizations like the CBI and NIA. This request comes despite a Supreme Court ruling from May 2025, upheld in October 2025, which aims to progressively reduce IPS officer deputation in Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) to allow faster promotions for CAPF officers. The court's decision seeks to lessen IPS dominance in CAPFs, where many senior positions are currently reserved for them, and a significant number remain vacant.
