
The Public Investment Board has approved an expenditure of Rs 26,069.50 crore for the 1,720 MW Kamala hydroelectric project in Arunachal Pradesh. The storage-based project, located on the Kamala River, aims to generate 6,869.92 million units of green energy annually, contributing to India's net zero targets. It also includes a flood moderation component to benefit the Brahmaputra Valley. The project will be implemented by NHPC and the Arunachal Pradesh government through a joint venture, with the state receiving 12% free power and contributions to a local development fund.
