The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has rejected Coimbatore Corporation's application to build a sewerage treatment plant (STP) near the Chinnavedampatti tank, citing non-compliance with norms. The Water Resources Department had previously permitted the construction, intending to use treated sewage for tank recharge and groundwater replenishment, assuring it would be pollutant-free. However, farmers opposing the project argue the tank was intended for freshwater storage and fear the treated water will degrade its quality and agricultural land.
