Following a series of fatal fire accidents that claimed 145 lives, the Indian government is tightening safety norms for sleeper coach buses. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that only accredited automobile companies or facilities will be permitted to manufacture new sleeper buses. Existing buses must be retrofitted with enhanced safety features, including fire detection, emergency exits, and driver drowsiness indicators. These measures aim to improve passenger safety and address lapses in construction and safety equipment highlighted by recent incidents.
