Twenty civic bodies in Maharashtra, including the BMC, have missed out on at least Rs 1,415 crore in central funds designated for air quality management. These grants, part of the Fifteenth Finance Commission's recommendations, were intended for pollution control measures. The delay in civic body elections since 2022 is cited as the reason for the non-disbursement of these funds, which were allocated between FY 2021 and FY 2026 for urban agglomerations like Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur.
