Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that Prime Minister Modi has initiated a campaign to remove colonial symbols, exemplified by renaming Port Blair to Sri Vijaya Puram and naming Andaman and Nicobar islands after freedom fighters. Shah highlighted the historical significance of the Cellular Jail, where many freedom fighters endured suffering and sacrifice. He mentioned Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's hoisting of the Tricolour and PM Modi's renaming of two islands as Shaheed and Swaraj in his honor. Shah added that the Prime Minister aims to name every island after freedom struggle heroes.
