West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee laid the foundation stone for the 'Gangasagar Setu', a bridge connecting Sagar Island to the mainland over the Muriganga river. The project, estimated between Rs 1,670 crore and Rs 2,500 crore, aims to provide all-weather road connectivity, reducing travel time significantly from ferry services. The bridge is intended to improve access for pilgrims attending the annual Gangasagar Mela and is expected to be completed within two to four years. Larsen & Toubro Ltd. and another private firm are involved in the construction.
