
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has accused former Surendranagar collector Rajendrakumar Patel of systematically collecting bribes, termed "speed money," to expedite land use change applications. The ED alleges Patel fixed bribe rates from Rs 5-10 per square meter, with cash payments collected and Patel acting as the final approving authority. Over 800 applications reportedly generated over Rs 10 crore in illicit proceeds. Patel has been remanded to ED custody until January 7.
