The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has declared January 15 as a public holiday for Makar Sankranti. This holiday will affect all government offices, educational institutions, and state-run establishments. The festival, also known as Khichdi, marks the sun's transit into Capricorn. While the transit occurs on January 14, the auspicious timing for religious rituals, known as Punya Kaal Muhurat, falls on January 15, from sunrise until 1 pm, making it the day for celebrations and holy dips.
