India observes the death anniversary of its second Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri, on January 11. Known for his humility and integrity, Shastri dropped his surname at age 12 to reject caste identity and later joined the freedom struggle. He famously accepted only a spinning wheel as dowry at his wedding, reflecting his commitment to Gandhian ideals. As Railway Minister, he resigned taking moral responsibility after a train accident. During the 1965 war, he led decisively and coined the slogan 'Jai Jawan Jai Kisan'.
