
An eviction drive targeting approximately 6,200 bighas of encroached Compensatory Afforestation land has commenced in Assam's Sonitpur district, within the Burhachapori Wildlife Sanctuary. The operation, led by the district administration and forest department, aims to clear land occupied by around 710 households for dwellings and agriculture. Despite prior notices, most occupants did not vacate, prompting the current large-scale clearing effort involving significant personnel and machinery.
