The National Medical Commission (NMC) has withdrawn the Letter of Permission for the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence to run an MBBS course, citing non-compliance with minimum standards. This decision follows protests by right-wing groups against the admission of 42 Muslim students out of 50 seats, who had qualified through NEET. Political leaders from Jammu and Kashmir have condemned the move as "communalisation of education," while some BJP leaders welcomed it. The J&K government has pledged to accommodate affected students in other medical colleges.
