India's Ministry of Defence is seeking to lease four amphibious aircraft for the Indian Navy for four years to enhance maritime capabilities. These specialized planes, capable of operating from both water and runways, are intended for roles including logistics support, search and rescue, humanitarian aid, and casualty evacuation. The move follows a decade-long interest, with a previous deal for Japanese US-2 aircraft with Mahindra Defence Systems not materializing. The aircraft would bolster rapid response in island territories and aid in combating piracy and smuggling.
