The Supreme Court is set to hear a plea challenging the detention of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk under the National Security Act. His wife, Gitanjali J Angmo, argues the detention is illegal and violates his fundamental rights, citing stale evidence and lack of connection to grounds for detention. Wangchuk was detained on September 26, following violent protests in Ladakh demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule status, where four people died. The government accuses him of inciting violence. The court had previously sought responses from the Centre and Ladakh administration on the amended plea.
