
Pope Leo XIV, in his first major "state of the world" address, decried a global "zeal for war" and the erosion of the post-WWII international order, stating diplomacy based on force is replacing dialogue. He urged respect for the will of the Venezuelan people following the U.S. capture of President Nicolas Maduro. The Pope also condemned abortion, euthanasia, and surrogacy, and warned of shrinking freedom of expression in Western countries.
