Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) administration has vowed strict action, including potential suspension or expulsion, against students accused of raising objectionable slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. The slogans were reportedly chanted during a protest marking the anniversary of the January 2020 campus violence, following the Supreme Court's denial of bail to Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam. The university stated that while freedom of speech is a right, campuses cannot become 'laboratories of hate' and that anti-national activities will not be tolerated. An FIR has been lodged, and an internal inquiry is underway.
