Rajya Sabha Member Balbir Singh Seechewal has advised farmers in Punjab's mand region to cultivate groundnut instead of paddy, citing its economic profitability and groundwater conservation benefits. He highlighted that groundnut requires minimal water and can yield significant returns, with wholesale prices ranging from Rs 70-100 per kg. Seechewal, who has been supporting flood-affected farmers, noted that about 150-200 acres remain covered in sand, hindering wheat and fodder cultivation. Farmers also appealed for timely flood loss compensation.
