
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appointed Tushar Apte, co-accused in a 2024 sexual abuse case at an educational institution, as a co-opted councillor in the Kulgaon-Badlapur Municipal Council. Apte, the institution's former secretary, was charged under the POCSO Act for allegedly failing to report the assault. Following widespread criticism, the BJP revoked the appointment on the same day. The case against Apte is currently sub judice.
