This move, supported by local leaders, aims to give the rapidly growing industrial and IT hub a distinct identity. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar stated his party would not oppose the proposal if it benefits the city. Discussions about a separate district have been ongoing due to Pimpri-Chinchwad's population exceeding 30 lakh.
