Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Azizur Rahman Musabbir was shot dead and another leader, Abu Sufian Masud, was injured in an attack by unidentified gunmen in Dhaka's Karwan Bazar area. The incident occurred Wednesday night near the Super Star Hotel. Musabbir, a former general secretary of the BNP's volunteer wing, was pronounced dead at a hospital. Masud, general secretary of the Karwan Bazar Van Association, sustained a gunshot wound and is receiving treatment. The attack, which involved assailants on motorcycles opening fire at close range, has heightened concerns over political violence ahead of national elections.
