The Union government has formed a high-level inter-departmental committee, headed by the Special Secretary (Internal Security), to address the growing issue of digital arrest scams. This committee, comprising representatives from various ministries, agencies, and tech platforms, has held multiple meetings and submitted a status report to the Supreme Court. The court had previously directed the CBI to investigate these scams, where fraudsters impersonate law enforcement to extort money from citizens, particularly the elderly and vulnerable.
