Taiwan's National Security Bureau (NSB) reports that China is employing extensive disinformation campaigns, utilizing fake news sites and bot networks, to influence public opinion and weaken social cohesion in Taiwan. The NSB identified over 45,000 fake social media accounts and millions of disinformation pieces, attributing these efforts to China's Central Publicity Department and Ministry of Public Security. Marketing and IT firms are allegedly used to create content farms and promote Beijing-friendly narratives, aiming to reduce Taiwanese resistance and international support. Taiwan's NSB is working with domestic bodies and platforms to counter these operations.
