The Samajwadi Party (SP) has alleged that the Namami Gange Mission's sewage treatment infrastructure is largely non-functional, despite significant funding and over a decade of implementation. SP spokesperson Ram Pratap Singh stated that approximately 45% of the targeted sewage treatment capacity remains uninstalled or inoperable, citing data discrepancies from the Ministry of Jal Shakti. He highlighted persistent pollution in cities like Kanpur, Varanasi, and Prayagraj, pointing to specific treatment plants failing to meet operational or compliance standards for biochemical oxygen demand.
