
The Madras High Court has granted interim protection to actor Kamal Haasan's personality rights, preventing the unauthorized commercial use of his image, likeness, and name. The court issued a 'John Doe' order against unknown entities involved in merchandising and circulating morphed images and videos. While restraining illegal commercial use and the creation of false images, the court clarified that permissible creative expressions like satire and caricature are not affected. Haasan's legal team presented evidence of irreparable damage to his reputation.
