
The Indian government, through the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and other entities, has released 184 new seed varieties across 25 crops. These varieties are designed to be high-yielding and resilient to climate change, soil salinity, and drought, aiming to boost farmer productivity and income. The announcement was made by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who also highlighted India's position as the world's largest rice producer. The new seeds include cereals, pulses, oilseeds, fodder crops, sugarcane, and cotton.
