
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the reclamation of over 1,700 acres of reserve forest land in Jamuna-Moudanga RF through an eviction drive. Since 2021, the government has cleared approximately 47,850 acres of alleged encroachments. Sarma stated that illegal encroachment will not be tolerated, referencing past drives that have primarily affected Bengali-speaking Muslim populations, often referred to pejoratively as 'Miyas'.
