Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis rejected the alliances, citing a breach of discipline and promising action. The Congress also suspended its 12 Ambernath councillors involved, who subsequently joined the BJP. Both state BJP and Congress leaderships distanced themselves from these local arrangements.
