CBDT Chairman Ravi Agrawal has urged Income Tax Department officials to prepare for the transition to the new Income Tax Act, set to take effect on April 1, 2026. In a New Year's communication, Agrawal emphasized the need for readiness, understanding of the law, and confidence in its implementation. He noted that new rules, procedures, and forms are being formulated, with training and capacity building already underway to ensure a smooth shift from the current 1961 Act and to guide taxpayers effectively.
