Serious violent crimes in Bihar, including murder and dacoity, have fallen to their lowest levels in over two decades, according to 2025 data released by the state police. Murder cases dropped to 2,556, the lowest in 25 years, while dacoity saw an over 80 percent reduction from early 2000s peaks. Robbery and riot cases also showed significant declines. This trend contrasts with an uptick in theft, burglary, and cybercrime. Police attribute the decrease to intensified enforcement and seizures of illegal arms.
