
Following a series of fatal fire accidents that claimed 145 lives in six months, the Indian government has mandated stricter safety norms for sleeper coach buses. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that only accredited automobile companies will be permitted to manufacture these buses, prohibiting local and manual builders. Existing sleeper buses must be retrofitted with fire detection systems, emergency exits, and driver drowsiness alerts to enhance passenger safety.
