The Punjab government, led by Bhagwant Mann, is significantly expanding its public transport fleet by adding 1,279 new buses to the state-run PUNBUS and PRTC services. This initiative aims to enhance last-mile connectivity, improve safety, and increase accessibility across urban and rural areas. The expansion includes direct procurement of ordinary and midi buses, alongside induction under the kilometre scheme, with new vehicles featuring advanced safety and accessibility measures. The phased rollout is expected to begin in March.
