A study by the Richmond Project, an education charity founded by Akshata Murty and Rishi Sunak, surveyed 8,000 adults and found that mothers often pass math anxiety to their daughters, widening a gender confidence gap. Girls aged 4-8 showed less confidence in math than boys, a gap that significantly increases by ages 9-18. Murty stated this intergenerational anxiety is absorbed by daughters when they see their mothers struggle with math, suggesting a need to make numbers less intimidating and build confidence across generations.
