
The Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS) has highlighted a significant mental health treatment gap in India, stating that 80-85% of individuals with psychiatric disorders do not receive timely or appropriate care. This issue, supported by national and global data, was discussed at the IPS's ANCIPS 2026 conference curtain-raiser. Experts noted that despite treatment advances, most affected individuals remain outside the formal healthcare system due to stigma, lack of awareness, and insufficient integration with primary care.
