A fire broke out at the Gangasagar Mela premises on Sagardwip island in West Bengal early Friday, destroying several temporary shelters including police and voluntary organisation camps. The blaze, which occurred a day after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the fair, is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. Firefighting efforts were challenged by the island's remote location. No casualties or injuries were reported, and the fire was brought under control.
