
Residents of Vaphai village in Mizoram's Champhai district are building a new relief camp to relocate 42 Myanmar refugees from a local middle school before its January 7 reopening. A total of 89 refugees from Myanmar's Chin state are currently in Vaphai, with some housed in the school and others in the community hall. Local villagers and Assam Rifles are providing aid, as refugees report fleeing aerial and ground attacks by the Myanmar military coinciding with election announcements.
