Health authorities in Australia and the U.S. have issued warnings regarding a counterfeit human anti-rabies vaccine, Abhayrab, circulating in India since November 2023. The counterfeit vaccine may be ineffective and harmful, prompting recommendations for revaccination for travelers administered the vaccine after the specified date. The manufacturer, Indian Immunologicals Limited (IIL), confirmed a counterfeit batch (KA24014) was identified in early 2025 and has been removed from circulation, with regulators and law enforcement notified.
