Monsignor Stephen Fernandes was ordained as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Bombay on Saturday at Our Lady of Salvation Church in Dadar, Mumbai. The appointment was announced by Pope Leo XIV on October 25, 2025. Bishop Fernandes, born in Mumbai, holds degrees in Commerce and Education and earned a doctorate in theology from Rome. He was ordained a priest in 1990 and has served in various capacities within the Catholic Church, including teaching and administrative roles. The ordination ceremony was led by Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal, with over 30 bishops and archbishops in attendance.
