Two suspected cases of Nipah virus disease have been identified in West Bengal, affecting two nurses who are in critical condition and on ventilator support. The cases were detected at AIIMS Kalyani, prompting a swift response from the Centre, which has deployed a National Joint Outbreak Response Team. Union Health Minister JP Nadda assured West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of full central support, including technical and logistical assistance. Contact tracing and enhanced surveillance measures are underway across affected districts to prevent further spread of the highly fatal zoonotic virus.
