Experts estimate that 80-85% of psychiatric patients in India do not receive timely or appropriate care due to deep-rooted stigma and a lack of awareness. Despite advances in treatment, the majority remain outside the formal healthcare system. Mental health disorders are highly treatable if identified early, but this treatment gap is a significant social, economic, and developmental issue requiring national attention and better integration of mental health services into primary healthcare.
